Dogs have keen senses. They can be
trained to notice things that we humans
don't notice. I have been 'low' so much
lately that I don't recognize the feelings all
the time anymore. That is called
hypoglycemia unawareness. If I 'go low'
and don't 'feel it', then I don't know to
check my blood sugar . . . then, I get l
ower and lower and risk having more
seizures. Dogs can be trained to alert
diabetics when that happens! Dogs can
even alert up to an hour BEFORE the low
blood sugar ever occurs! If I have a dog to
alert me, I can treat my lows or highs
before they are life threatening.

And, of course, my dog can be my friend
and a loyal companion. It is like having a
friend to help me deal with this horrible
disease.
