Insulin Pumps >> |
My pump gives me insulin throughout the day and night. It is like a little computer that is with me all the time. It delivers my insulin in a pattern similar to the way my pancreas SHOULD deliver it. It gives me insulin in 2 ways : basal doses and bolus doses. The basal dose is the 'basic dose' that drips into my body steadily to control my blood sugars. The bolus dose is given each time I eat or to correct a blood sugar that is high. The insulin is delivered through a very small tube. The tube is inserted under my skin once every 3 days. It stays there all the time - sort of like having a IV. The tube is connected to the Insulin Pump itself. I keep mine in a case and wear it on my belt loops, like a cell phone case. If you saw me, you might not even notice that I was wearing one. |
